On Saturday May 7th, 2011 Providence Community Library Knight Memorial Campus hosted DK Publishing's "Attack of the Authors East Coast Tour" featuring Ryder Windham. Members of the New England Garrison of the 501st Legion and the Alderaan Base of the Rebel Legion were also in attendance. Wowing the crowd were Darth Vader, Tusken Raider, Biker Scout, TIE fighter pilot, Death Star Gunner, Clone Commando, and Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker.

The event kicked off with the members of the New England Garrison of the 501st Legion and Alderaan Base of the Rebel Legion posing for pictures. After the photo session Ryder started his presentation. He began by telling how he got into the world of Star Wars, going back to his Dark Horse Comic days and his work such titles as The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and the Star Wars Droids series. Since then, he has gone on to author over 70 Star Wars and Indiana Jones books. Next, Ryder went on to talk about the Clone Wars giving its history and comparing items from the two Trilogies. He also filled us in on his works for the Clone Wars series and gave some behind the scenes looks into the books he has been a part of.

In addition to the Clone Wars, Ryder spoke about his blueprints books focusing on the Y-wing and how it evolved from the Original Trilogy to the version that appears in the Clone Wars series. Ryder also discussed his involvement in the creation of the Clone Wars Secret Mission books. He provided insight into what was involved in getting the series launched and also presented prelimary artwork and never before seen cover art sketches for the series of books.

Ryder also shared with the assembled audience how he became a Pith Lord and his involvement in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars Opress Unleashed comic book that was given away as part of Free Comic Book Day. The slideshow ended with a sneak peek into his next project the Millennium Falcon Owners’ Workshop Manual.

The presentation wrapped up with a Question and Answer session followed by drawings for nap sacks, exclusive Star Wars Mimobot flash drives, and Her Universe t-shirts. Also available were a wide variety of free items such as buttons featuring Lego versions of Yoda and Darth Vader, the Free Comic Book Day Savage Opress comic book, various posters, stickers, and a magnet set. After the presentation Ryder made himself available to the fans for autographs.

All in all, the event was a very nice outing with fun for all ages. It was a great opportunity to hear Ryder speak. He definitely knows his material inside and out and put on a great presentation for all who attended..
