A friend of the Cantina from the Twin Cities area in Minnesota attended the Lego KidsFest event in Minneapolis on Saturday, May 21. At the event, which was held at the Minneapolis Convention Center, there were Lego statues of characters from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman, Harry Potter, and more. Other attractions included "Master Builder" classes, a "Lego Universe" gaming station and the "Lego Pit", a gigantic pile of assorted Lego bricks that kids of all ages we encouraged to dig into and create whatever their imagination could come up with.
This three day event began on Friday May 20th and ran through Sunday May 22nd. On Friday the doors opened at 4:00 PM and stayed open until 9:00 PM while on both Saturday and Sunday the event was split into two sessions each day, running from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM and 3:00PM - 8:00PM. Minneapolis was the first of many stops for the event this year which includes Pittsburgh, PA (June 17th - 19th), Raleigh, NC (October 7th - 9th), Cleveland, OH (November 4th - 6th) before wrapping up in Hartford, CT (December 2nd - 4th).
Also included in this report is bonus coverage of the MCBA (Midwest Comic Book Association) Springcon, which was held on May 21st and 22nd at the Minnesota Fairgrounds Grandstand. On display at this convention there were numerous custom made Star Wars props from the "Propotorium", more than two dozen vendors were on hand, as were the local 501st Legion, Central Garrison. There were also dozens of guests which included local and national comic book artists, many of which were offering discussion panels and custom sketch cards. For those of you who missed out on all the fun and will be in the area the weekend of October 15th, you can attend the MCBA Fallcon Comic Book Party, which should also be a good time for all who attend.
