This past week the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City hosted the annual New York Comic Con October 9-12 , 2014. The event, produced by ReedPop covers many aspects of the Pop Cultural universe. Myself, along with over 150,000 attendees ventured to the Javits to soak in the sights and sounds of this year's event. For such a large volume of people, the show was managed quite well. Lines moved quickly and the flow of traffic was excellent, which kept all of the attendees in good spirits the whole weekend.
Once again, the cosplay this year was fantastic (as always) and represented every genre of pop culture from superheroes to Star Wars to Saturday morning cartoons. Before the doors even opened on Friday various Ghostbusters costume groups were making the rounds, pumping up the crowd . Once in we were able to check out the wide array of vendors who had any and every kind of collectible you could think of available for sale. I myself made sure to stop by the Hallmark booth and pick myself up some of the convention exclusive Star Wars Keepsake ornaments and IttyBitty sets. If you couldn't find something you liked, you were not looking hard enough! In the Artist Alley there were hundreds of booths to look at and the work on display was as great as always. From prints to customize comic book covers to sketch cards, it was easy to walk away with a one-of-a-kind rememberance of the event. For those that are into panels there were several to choose from all day every day. From Marvel to The Walking Dead to Star Wars Rebels, there was enough information to keep you riveted to your seat all weekend long. If autographs were your thing, there were dozens upons dozens of celebrities from dozens of different properties there pressing the flesh with their die hard fans, offering up not only autograph opportunities, but one-on-one photo opportunities as well.
Overall this was another great event, Reed Pop really outdid themselves this year. The volume of people was above and beyond what anyone expected and the show still ran as smooth as a smaller, regional convention. We here at the Cantina are definitely looking forward to attending next year's show, which in case you were wondering is scheduled for October 8th-11th, 2015.
