On Saturday June 4th the Knights of Columbus in South Attleboro, MA held a Star Wars Charity Event featuring the Star Wars writer Ryder Windham and the New England Garrison of the 501st Legion. In attendance for the costuming group were a Death Star Gunner, Imperial Officier, T.I.E. Fighter Pilot, Stormtrooper, Sandtrooper, Boba Fett, and the Dark Lord of the Sith himself, Darth Vader. The event took place from 10:00-12:00 and the cost of admission was a canned good or a new or gently used book.
The event began with a presentation by Star Wars and Indiana Jones author Ryder Windham. Ryder kicked off his presentation by thanking both Knights of Columbus and the New Garrision of the 501st of the opportunity to appear at such a great event. He then spoke briefly about his own past and how a love of Star Wars as a child helped spark his interest in writing which eventually led to a job with Dark Horse Comics and his current involvement in the Star Wars universe.
He discussed his current involvement in the Blue Print series of Star Wars books and gave some details into what it took to create the pages for the Millennium Falcon edition. He also spoke to his involvement in the Clone Wars series with his "Mission" series of books as well as the upcoming Millennium Falcon Owners Manual. He then wrapped up his presentation with a sneak peek at his upcoming “Star Wars: Darth Maul” biography. After the presentation concluded, members of the 501st made themselves available for photos with those in attendance while Ryder put his writing skills to good use by signing autographs for all of his fans. The event wrapped up with a raffle for some great Star Wars-themed prizes.
In closing, it was a great event where everyone both young and young at heart had a great time. As he always does, Ryder Windham gave a great presentation and it was a pleasure hearing what he had to say about the Star Wars universe.
